Texting with Peek
Q: Can I send text messages on my Peek?
A: Yes! You can send text messages (also known as SMS messages) by following a few easy steps. Peek makes it as easy as sending an email, and there are NO extra charges!
1. Compose a new email.
2. Enter the 10 digit phone number you'd like to message in the 'To' field (instead of an email address).
3. Finish writing you message. Make sure you keep it brief since text messages are generally limited to 160 characters by text message carriers.
4. Send.
We'll convert your email to a cell phone-friendly text message and take care of the rest.
Q: Can I receive text messages on my Peek?
A: Yes. Your friends might notice that if they reply to a text message that you send them, it looks like it's being sent to a funky address that's not an email address or a phone number. But don't fret! That weird address is just something that carriers use to route their messages, and if your friend replies to a text message you sent from your Peek, their reply will show up in your Inbox just like an email. Also, many phones allow direct text messaging to email addresses. Just tell your friend to type your email address in the phone number field and send their SMS normally, and you should be good to go.
Q: Can I send a text to more than one person simultaneously?
A: No problem! Since Peek handles text messages by converting to and from emails, you have all the same options for sending texts. Just make sure your recipients - email addresses, phone numbers or both - are separated by a semicolon and they should all receive your message at once!
Q: Why is my friend not getting my SMS?
A: Make sure that you don't put a leading '1' in front of the 10 digit phone number, and that the number doesn’t contain any sort of punctuation like dashes, etc. Here are some examples:
Correct: 9175558273
Incorrect: 19175558273
Incorrect: (917) 555 8273
Incorrect: 917-555-8273
If you still aren't able to send and/or receive text messages, it may be an issue with the network carrier of the phone you are messaging. Nevertheless, please give us a call at 877-677-PEEK and we’ll see what we can do to help!
Q: Are there any limitations or tips?
A: At this time we don't support sending text messages to international phones or to five digit phone numbers (also known as ‘short codes’). Sometimes you may experience a short delay with sending or receiving a message. We are always looking to improve our service and promise to continue to work on giving you the best email and messaging experience possible.
